Being a strategist is like being on the lookout on a ship, climbing up the mast to spot potential dangers and opportunities ahead for investors.

At the start of each year, I am invited to write for the local newspaper my top 10 themes

As 2024 draws to a close, I reflected on my top 10 predictions published earlier this year:

1. No hard landing of global economy
2. Inflation to normalise further
3. Interest rates to fall
4. ASEAN and India to shine
5. Don’t write off China
6. Broadening of US sector leadership
7. USD to stay strong
8. Healthcare innovation
9. Election outcomes to create volatility
10. Globally diversified portfolio to beat cash

It’s uncanny to have almost all of the themes playing out …

The global economy avoided a hard landing, showing resilience, while inflation eased further. Interest rates began to fall, albeit modestly. ASEAN and India emerged as growth leaders, while China remained a key player despite complexities. The broadening of U.S. sector leadership beyond tech was evident, and the USD stayed strong, defying expectations. Healthcare innovation continued to shine with breakthroughs, political events brought volatility, and once again, globally diversified portfolios outperformed cash.

Now, as I prepare to climb back up the mast and gain a fresh vantage point for 2025, I’m sharpening my focus on the opportunities ahead.

Stay tuned for my Top 10 Themes for 2025.
